Natural caves worth visiting

We asked subscribers to write in about any impressive, fascinating, historical or memorable natural caves worth visiting that are outside of the USA. Your letter was to include the cave’s name and location (contact info or general directions) and when you were there. In addition to describing the place and telling what you found noteworthy about it, we wanted to know how accessible it was plus any visitor restrictions or requirements, the best time to visit, any entry fee, etc., and about interesting sights nearby.

There’s an app for that

Apps mentioned in this article.

Mike Harrison of Castle Rock, Washington, wrote, “With hundreds of thousands of apps out there today, it is very difficult to sort through them to determine their usefulness for travelers. It would be nice to hear from people about which apps they found helpful in planning trips and how beneficial they found apps to be that they used overseas.”

A good history book

In his August 2011 “Departure Lounge” column, ITN creator and publisher, the late Armond Noble, wrote, “After returning from a country, have you become so interested in that nation that you bought books about its history?” We repeated the question in our November ’11 and October ’12 issues: “What book would you recommend that tells the history of a particular country (outside of the US)? Let us know the title and what you liked about the book.” We are presenting, here, subscribers’ selections.
