Fewer cruise ships are visiting Antarctica due to new regulations requiring them to use marine gas oil, a lighter and less polluting but more expensive fuel. The new regulations were set up by the International Maritime Organization after the sinking of the MS Explorer off of Antarctica in 2007.
My husband, Tom, and I flew to Istanbul on Sept. 8, 2010, to join five other photo enthusiasts on a tour of Turkey. Delhi, India, is issuing 10,000 new permits for 3-wheeled rickshaw taxis. The city’s fleet of rickshaws was capped in 1997 at about 60,000 to cut down on pollution. Since then, many rickshaws have been replaced with those that run on compressed natural gas, and others have been converted to do so.
