Tokyo Skytree tallest

At 2,080 feet, Tokyo’s Skytree, opened to the public on May 22, is the world’s tallest freestanding broadcasting tower and the second-highest structure (second to the Burj Khalifa in the UAE).

Visitors take the high-speed elevator on a 50-second ride to the Tembo Deck (1,148 feet up), where there is a café and a 360-degree view from a glassed-in deck. From there, they purchase a second ticket to ride up a “glass tube” to the Tembo Galleria (1,475 feet). The observation decks are open 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

Bought on site, the cost of a ticket to the Tembo Deck is ¥2,000 (about $25) and to the Tembo Galleria, ¥1,000, for an adult; ¥1,500/¥800 for a child 12-17; ¥900/¥500 child 6-11, and ¥600/¥300 child 4-5, with children three and under free. Persons with disabilities pay half price.

Tickets also can be purchased at hotels or travel agencies in Tokyo or online at http://ticket.tokyo-skytree.jp. Note: the website is in Japanese only; tickets bought online must be purchased with credit cards issued in Japan and cost ¥500 more than tickets bought in person.
