Knowledgeable South Africa guide

We and another couple enjoyed an amazing 5-day safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa, staying at four different park camps. Our safari, in September, was carefully planned and smoothly executed by Dries de Bruyn (De Camdeboo, 10 Swart St., Eldoraigne 0157, South Africa; phone [012] 653-2178 or e-mail driesdebruyn@mweb.co.za). (Pronounce “Dries” like “trees and “Bruyn” like “brain.)

Dries was born in South Africa and has lived there all his life. He is very knowledgeable about the flora, fauna, geology and history of the area. His area of specialty includes Gauteng, where Pretoria and Johannesburg are located, and Mupumalanga, which encompasses Kruger National Park.

We saw the “big five” (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo) several times as well as a vast array of other animals, birds, insects and plant life.

A charming and intelligent person, Dries always went the extra mile to meet our needs and expand our horizons. He expertly prepared breakfasts and dinners for us on the brai (barbecue).

We paid him 865 rand (about $123) a day, which included his services, vehicle, overnight accommodations and park fees. He will tailor your visit to your budget. Dries is a certified tour and fly-fishing guide.

Our time with this incredible man was a highlight of our trip to South Africa.
