A wave of new international routes launched in October. In the Gulf, Etihad Airways launched Abu Dhabi to Red Sea International in Saudi Arabia on October 4 and added Abu Dhabi-Luxembourg service later in the month.
British Airways added London Gatwick to Colombo, Sri Lanka, on October 23. On October 25, Finnair began Helsinki-to-Melbourne service via Bangkok and Lufthansa started flying Frankfurt to Kuala Lumpur.
Air Canada began seasonal service from Toronto and Montreal to Tenerife South in the Canary Islands on October 25 and 31, respectively.
