On the coast of Hengquin Island, a 15-minute drive from Macau, the ecological theme park and hotel Hengqin Chimelong Ocean Kingdom (Fuxiang Bay, Hengqin New District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong 519031, People’s Rep. of China; phone +86 756 299 8888) opened in January. 

The park is separated into eight areas, Ocean Main Street, Dolphin Cove, Amazing Amazon, Ocean Wonders, Polar Adventure, Colorful World, Mount Walrus and Hengqin Sea.

The park contains the world’s largest aquarium window, 129 by 27 feet, and the world’s largest aquarium tank, holding 5.9 million gallons plus whale sharks, octopuses, various fish species and coral. A submarine inside takes visitors on rides. Other species on display include manta rays, dolphins, sea lions, walruses, penguins and polar bears.

Rates at the 1,888-room hotel run from CNY989 (near $158) per night for a double up to CNY2,277 ($364) for a package sea-view double that includes breakfast and access to Ocean Kingdom.
