North of Great Slave Lake in Alberta, Canada, travelers can view the aurora borealis from the comfort of a hot tub or even their own bed at Blachford Lake Lodge, with the 5-day/4-night “Aurora Escape” package from The Great Canadian Travel Company (Chicago, IL; 800/661-3830).

Available Dec. 20, 2013-April 6, 2014, the package costs $2,099 per person, double occupancy (single supplement, $656), and includes two nights’ stay in Yellowknife, an aurora excursion and a round trip on a float plane to Blachford for a 2-night stay, meals and two interpretive tours.

Other winter activities there include snowmobiling and dog sledding. Lodging at the inn in winter costs $1,050 per person for two nights in a cabin (2-night minimum) or $1,499 in the lodge. Round-trip airfare from New York to Yellowknife runs near $900.
