My husband, Gene, and I joined a tour of Biblical sites of Anatolia, Turkey, “Paul’s Missionary Journeys,” offered by Tutku Tours (Gaziosmanpasa Bulvari 3/303, Izmir, Turkey 35210; phone +90 [232] 441 8676 or 8677 or 8635; fax 441 8636)

The price of our tour, March 28-April 9, 2013, was $3,549. This covered round-trip air from Chicago; internal air and bus travel; accommodations, and meals except for lunches, which we were happy to arrange on our own.

Tutku Tours handled everything beautifully. Led by Dr. Jeff Weima, Professor of New Testament at Calvin Seminary, and guided by Cenk Eronat of Tutku Tours, the 32 tour members in our group traveled to sites identified with Paul’s missionary journey and the seven churches mentioned in Revelation.

Jeff and Cenk together presented a vivid background to what we saw and gave us insights into events that took place during Paul’s life as well as into New Testament writings. In Antalya we even met Dr. Mark Wilson, author of the excellent book “Biblical Turkey: a Guide to the Jewish and Christian sites of Asia Minor” (2010, 400 pgs., $36)

The extensive preparation for what we saw enhanced our appreciation of scripture and its historical context.
