The US Department of State warns that visitors to Haiti have been victims of violent crime, including murder and kidnapping, predominantly in the Port-au-Prince area. US Embassy personnel are under an embassy-imposed curfew of 1 to 5 a.m. and are restricted from traveling in some areas.
Haiti’s infrastructure remains unable to fully support even normal activity. Medical facilities are particularly weak. Cholera persists in many areas. The ability of local authorities to respond to emergencies is limited and in some areas nonexistent. Travelers should use organizations that have infrastructure, evacuation and medical support options in place.
