While the security situation in Côte d’Ivoire has improved since the post-electoral crisis that ended in May 2011, the potential for civil unrest remains.
In 2012 there were serious incidents in the southwest and southeast. There were attacks against UN peacekeepers in the Tai region in June, on a police station in Yopougon and a military camp in Akouedou in August and on a power plant in Abidjan and on a military checkpoint and police office in Bonoua in October.
Crimes, such as muggings, robbery, burglary and carjacking, pose risks for visitors around the country.
