Myanmar violence

In western Myanmar, the Muslim quarter of the town of Kyaukpyu was razed when sectarian and ethnic violence erupted again in late October, beginning on the 21st.

More than 112 people were killed in Rakhine state, where tensions between Buddhists and the more than 800,000 Rohingyas (mostly Muslim) resulted in fighting and the destruction of at least 2,000 houses and religious buildings. More than 28,000 people (mostly Muslim) fled the area for displacement camps, where conditions have become desperate.

Back in June, riots and unrest left more than 80 people dead and displaced 75,000.
