Nepal government crisis

After four years of wrangling, in May Nepal’s Constituent Assembly failed to agree on a new constitution, leaving the country without a functioning government.

The main divisions were between caste and ethnic-based political parties who want more representation of minorities. The Prime Minister’s call for new elections in November 2012 was immediately challenged as illegal and too difficult. Demonstrations can be expected and could turn violent.
