Chad mending; still crime

The security situation in Chad has slowly but steadily improved since its peace agreement with Sudan in early 2010. Historically, however, it has been volatile.

The US Department of State advises avoiding eastern Chad and the border regions, where there are high levels of violent crime and a continuing risk of clashes between armed groups and the government. There is a heightened risk of carjacking and kidnapping in these conflict zones. Law enforcement and military units have been implicated in violent crime.
