On the beautiful island of Santorini, GREECE, we stayed in a grouping of “traditional cave houses” set into the walls of the caldera overlooking a picture-perfect view of blue sea, volcanic islands and white, cliffside dwellings.
The Thea Studios (Oia, Santorini, Greece; phone/fax +30-22860-71636 or mobile +30-6938280417, e-mail thea_thira@yahoo.com) was everything we could wish for at only €50 ($61) cash for two nights, starting Oct. 1, ’03, the first day of the off-season. We would have been happy at several times the price.
Our room was reached by a relatively few steps down the side of the caldera. Our suite had a balcony with table and chairs, a kitchenette and a living area. The décor was traditional, with everything new and clean.
Oia is on the north end of the island, and the inn was close to a friendly mini-mart and “little church” bus stop.
