Visiting Travel Warnings List Countries

Jeff Carrier of Naples, Florida, had the following request for subscribers (Jan. ’15, pg. 68): “I would like input from readers who have traveled recently to any of the nearly 40 countries that are pretty much always on the US State Department’s ‘Travel Warnings’ list, which appears monthly in ITN. How did they do it and what were their experiences?” A number of responses were printed in last month’s issue. The remainder appear below.

Travel solutions for stamina issues (2 of 2)

In the December 2014 and January 2015 issues, ITN printed an information request from Diane Robbins of Penfield, New York: “When sightseeing, my husband does well for a while, but after about an hour or so of walking or being on his feet, he needs to rest for a few minutes. We nixed a trip to Rome because of feedback that visiting the Vatican can take hours, with no place to sit. I would love to have some feedback from other travelers who have stamina issues. I’m curious about travelers who take those canes that open into seats.

In-Depth Tours

Carol Horner of Lacey, Washington, wrote (Nov. ’14, pg. 67), “I have traveled many places, gone on many tours and lived in Paris, Istanbul and Tokyo. I no longer want to tour castles, cathedrals, mosques, museums, parks and ‘wonders of the world.’ What I’m looking for are tours that take travelers to nations for immersion in their politics and economics, including information about, say, their major exports and imports and their agricultural and natural resources.

Received a traffic ticket from overseas

Nancy Tan of Fresno, California, wrote (Sept. ’14, pg. 33), “While traveling in Spain with my husband and son in May 2014, we received a speeding ticket, but we didn’t even know we had been cited until at least two weeks later when the rental car company forwarded the ticket to us by email (charging us over €30 for this “service”). The ticket, a fine of €300 (near $403), had been given electronically. The ticket said we had been cited for going 20 kilometers per hour over the limit.
