Cooking with Poo

This item appears on page 61 of the September 2018 issue.

In Sukhumvit, Bangkok, Thailand, the class "Cooking with Poo," led by chef Khun Saiyuud Diwong (known as Khun Poo, short for chompoo, or "rose apple"), instructs students, in English, on traditional Thai cooking.

She offers one class a day, Mon.-Sat., with a different menu each day. Students are picked up at Emporium Suites (622 Sukhumvit Rd.) at 8:30 a.m. and taken to the Khlong Toei market to buy ingredients. After making lunch in Khun Poo's kitchen, they are returned to the suites at 1 p.m. (Khun Poo is usually present but sometimes must hand off teaching duties to one of her assistants, all of whom are fluent in English.)

Each cooking class costs THB1,500 (near $45) per person, including transfers and all ingredient purchases. Must book in advance at www.cookingwithpoo.com.
