Two active senior travelers on a cruise will be docked in Livorno, Italy, for a day. We appreciate any advice for how best to spend our time. Can you recommend any driver/guides with a car for a personal tour? Is there enough to see in Livorno accessible by the Hop on/Hop off bus? Would Lucca or even Florence be accessible by reliable train service? We welcome all advice to help make our limited time memorable -- and within a reasonable budget. Thank you.

if you have never visited, Florence might be too overwhelming for a one-day stop. But if you have been to Florence before, then you can pick one or two museums to visit. With the approx. 6 to 7 hours you will have in port, I'd recommend visiting Lucca and San Gimignano. Lucca is about an hour away from the port; and San Gimignano is about 1 and 1/2 hours. Check with these sources for a car/driver:You could contact Cristina Viti. She lives in Lucca and has a small travel company -- cristinaviti@hotmail.it If you would rather deal with a US compay, you could try:Italian Exclusive Vacations (based in Massachusetts) www.exploreitaly.net Tel: 781-899-0900! This company coordinates programs in Italy for Road Scholar. They made some arrangements for me (for Venice) when I visited. They were easy to work with and took credit cards.
