I am interested in travel to LAOS. Has anyone used Mekong Tours and what was your experience. sandra

I've been to Laos three times. The first time with Intrepid - that was two weeks visiting both the south and the north. Since then I've been back on my own to Vientiane and Luang Prabang. What do you want to see? You really don't need a tour for the main cities.

thanks for your reply.I am interested in crafts and want to go to some of the villages as well as the jar of plains as well as the two major cities. sandra

It's easy enough to go to the villages near Luang Prabang. Plenty of agencies arranging tours down the main street these days, or you can bargain yourself with a rickshaw or taxi. Or with a boatman. You can fly into the Plain of Jars. I had thought of visiting, but having seen one of the jars in a museum in Vientiane I decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

I traveled to Laos in 2007 with ElderTreks. I chose them specifically because they went to the Plain of Jars, but they also include village visits in both the north and south, as well as the standard Laos sights. I would recommend traveling with Roger Burrows as the leader, he seems to know all the best shops and would be helpful in searching out crafts.
