I am Britney and I am new here.. I just want to ask of a perfect place for a holiday vacation with my husband. I want this to be a memorable one because it is our first holiday vacation as a couple. Thanks in advance. :) -------- Moderator note: light editing

As first-time travelers, maybe you would enjoy a tour where details are taken care of. Something like Apple Vacations (www.applevacations.com) or Caravan Tours (www.caravan.com/). These are moderatly priced trips, generally lasting a week.

They say Italy is the perfect place to vacation. I'll go along with that, although, as Skunkman says, it depends on you, the traveler. Go to www.initaly.com and find a week or two at a self-catering villa, a B&B or a hotel in any of the many cities or countryside villages. This is a great web-site for all of Italy.

I think you would enjoy the Chianti countryside. There is wine tasting, horseback riding, olive oil tasting, cooking classes, fortresses, vineyards, art, etc. Some of the towns I like are Montepulciano, Montalcino, Radda in Chianti, Volpaia - there are many more.

Another area in Italy is along the Amalfi coast. Positano, Amalfi or Sorrento are poular destinaions. Some of the smaller towns are just as nice - Praiano, Ravello, Vietri, Maiori, Cetara.

Plan to enjoy and you will have a memorable time.

Nearly 15 years ago, I was pondering the same question. As a newly wed, I wanted to plan the perfect vacation for my husband and I to start sharing travel memories. Skunkman is right. There are thousands of memorable places. His list of questions are helpful too.

I would also consider how much travel experience you and your husband have enjoyed alone or together. For example, my husband had traveled extensively in Europe while in the military and in Asia on business. I traveled semi-independently via fly/hotel packages, such as Trafalgar's "London Week," in small groups such as Sobek Mountain Travel Trekking in Nepal, and in large groups such as Globus "Spain, Portugal, and Morocco." For our first holiday together, I replicated a favorite trip to the Yucatan with several days each at favorite hotels in Cancun, Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and Merida. I relished showing my husband my favorite Mayan ruins and sharing new snorkeling experiences. A travel agent organized the trip so all we needed to do was get ourselves from place to place and present hotel vouchers. It was the perfect first travel experience for us.

Our next trip was to Thailand with Overseas Adventure Travel. We thoroughly enjoyed discovering this exotic country with our small group of 16. Also, we appreciated having all planning and details handled by someone else. Since then, we've taken 10 OAT trips!

Joe's question whether you prefer having details taken care of by someone else or independently is valid. My experience with Globus taught me that I prefer not to be in a large group. In North America, I plan our itineraries and make all arrangements. However, we also accept the economy and social benefits of traveling in small groups.

My husband and I take turns picking destinations. Thus, we've both been 'stretched' experientially. We've managed to visit every continent. The world is an amazing place. We'be built priceless memories over the years. We hope you enjoy your travel journey and build terrific memories.
