Arranging customized New Zealand tour

❮ Back To Message Board
We would like to spend 2-4 weeks in New Zealand in early 2018, but are not anxious to drive. We would like to see the "interior" (i.e. not just the bigger cities). Any recommendations on reasonably cost agencies that might arrange transportation?

Several years ago, we talked with Carolyn Wrightson of Essential DownUnder Travel and, had we chosen to travel independently, would have worked with her. Essential DownUnder Travel focuses on custom itineraries for Australia and New Zealand. She advertises in ITN. www.EssentialDownUnder.com 877-977-4505. We were impressed with her knowledge and candor.

Another option might be to review options through Overseas Adventure Travel. They offer a 16 day trip "Pure New Zealand" as well as 30 day Australia and New Zealand and 17 day Ultimate Australia. In 2007, we opted for the OAT 16 person tour Ultimate Australia rather than traveling independently. That tour remains among our favorites. Hindsight, we wish we would have added New Zealand as a post trip or taken the longer combined trip. We've travelel more than a dozen times with OAT and are consistently pleased with the experience. www.oattravel.com or 800-955-1925. Happy Travels!

If you're considering a coach tour, you might also want to look at the offerings of two well-established, Australian-based companies: APT (Australian Pacific Touring) and AAT Kings. I've taken several trips with the former, ranging from day trips from state capitals to 7-10 day trips through parts of the country that I'd hesitate to do by car. I haven't used AAT Kings, but I understand they're also good.
