You could also visit Switzerland, taking a local train to Domodossolo, the Circumvalli to Locarno and returning to Stresa by boat. The local travel agents should arrange that for you. (I prefer Isola Madre to Isola Bella, as it's quieter.)

Take the ferries to the islands, Isola Bella and Isola Madre, to tour the fabulous gardens and palace on Isola Bella. Gorgeous!
