Suggestions for Portugal

❮ Back To Message Board
I am going to be in Portugal this summer and would love to hear any suggestions on things to see and do. I will be in Lisbon for a few days and then the Alfama area.

You can type Portugal in the search link above on this page and numerous articles are available. Also, tour books have information. It all depends on what appeals to you

My wife and I recently completed a guided (commercial) bicycle tour across southern Portugal, during which we spent 2 nights in Evora. I greatly enjoyed walking through the city and the seeing the historic buildings within it, including a Roman ruin. One afternoon, while others in our cycling group went off to see a cork factory, we were driven by our guide to see one of the largest collections of prehistoric stone "monuments" in Europe (think Stonehenge, but smaller stones and more of them) outside the nearby town of Guadalupe. If you have a car or can arrange for one in Evora, I highly recommend a visit to the 5000-year old site. A website I stumbled upon showing some of this, not nearly as impressive as being there, is at https://www.theladytravels.com/evora/ There are apparently a number of such megalithic sites in the area, but this one may be the most impressive.

Lisbon is a lovely city to just walk around. In order to get to know it, you have several alternatives:
1. Hop on-Hop off bus
2. tour booked thru your hotel (this will be a bus tour with approx 40 people)
3. a private tour. I use Paulo Ferreira who is a licensed licensed guide for custom tours. He is the owner of Limou Tours and his email is: pauloferreira3076@gmail.com He has helped me with day tours out of the city as well as my airport transfers. He has a comfortable, late-model Mercedes. He is an excellent guide/driver.
