Getting from Rome to Civitavecchia

We are landing in Rome on Aug 12, and need to get to Civitavecchia on the 13th. Has anybody done this by train? Does anyone have a reasonable way to get there? Thanks. Carole

several years ago my wife and i flew into rome the day before a cruise leaving from civit. after checking out buses, etc and not wanting to train into rome and back out, i rented a car from hertz and drove over, spent the night, had the car to pick up a few things and then dropped it off before boarding cruise. worked very well.

Last spring I used AirPortShuttle (http://www.airportshuttle.it/) to get from the port to the airport and their service was great. The charge was 90 euros but I got together with a couple of other passengers from my cruise through Cruise Critic Roll Call message board and we shared the cost. Driver was right on time. The cost from Rome to the airport is cheaper.

I believe the train, which would be cheaper, requires a transfer to get to Civitavecchia which can be a pain with luggage, but the train station in Civitavecchia is within a couple of blocks of the port.

We will be going by train from Trastevere to Civitavecchia in Dec. If you will google "Ron in Rome", he has several sites and a couple of them are about trains to the port and return to Rome. After reading his articles, I feel very comfortable as a first timer to do the round trip. His photos make it so much easier...for Trastevere, he has a step by step photos which also shows were the elevators are.
