Viking Cruises’ testing lab

This item appears on page 28 of the February 2021 issue.

A full polymerase chain reaction (PCR) lab was installed on Viking Cruises’ Viking Star, permitting the ship to conduct daily COVID-19 tests of all of its passengers and crew. It is the first full-scale PCR testing facility to be built on board a cruise ship. The test administered by this lab is a noninvasive saliva test.

The Viking Star, one of Viking’s oceangoing vessels, can hold 930 passengers and 602 crew.
