New Thailand visa

This item appears on page 28 of the January 2021 issue.

A new Thailand tourist visa was introduced on Nov. 23 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To apply, a traveler needs to fill out a visa application form and a health declaration form, both available from Thai consulates (visit thaiembdc.org for a link to the consulate nearest you).

The traveler then must send in his paperwork along with his passport and two passport-sized photos as well as confirmation of accommodation at an approved hotel for at least 15 nights (at press time, Thailand required all foreigners to quarantine for 15 nights), proof of a booked return flight and health insurance covering at least $100,000 in medical expenses plus a bank statement showing a balance of at least THB500,000 (near $16,556).

If approved, the applicant will receive a certificate of entry along with a visa, which, upon his boarding a flight, must be presented along with a negative result of a COVID-19 test taken within the previous 72 hours and proof of health insurance.

Thailand is open to tourists from any country as long as they meet the requirements.
