From within viewing rooms 26 feet under the Indian Ocean, visitors can observe more than 300 aquatic species during a tour of the Underwater Observatory at Busselton Jetty (Busselton Beachfront; phone +61 08 9754 0900, www.busseltonjetty.com.au), on the southwestern coast of Western Australia.

Each tour begins with a 1.7-kilometer train ride down the length of the jetty, from where a guide will lead visitors and identify species of fish, mammals and invertebrates that pass by. Lasting roughly one hour 45 minutes, each tour costs AUD34 (near $25) per person and can be booked online or at the jetty entrance.

Measuring more than 1.8 kilometers, Busselton Jetty is the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.
