Sleep in a vintage train car, UK

This item appears on page 57 of the April 2020 issue.

In Dorset, England, visitors can stay in a restored Victorian train car, the High Cross Camping Coach (Whitecross, Netherbury, Bridport, Dorset; phone +44 1308 488701, campingcoach.co.uk), located in the garden of High Cross Cottage.

The coach, which sleeps two, has a full kitchen, a dining area with wood-burning stove, and a bathroom. It can be booked for up to seven nights (£620), with a minimum 2-night stay during the week (£210 [near $270]) and 3-night stay over the weekend (£290). Nearby is an early-20th-century wagon, or “living van” (£10 more per person), which also sleeps two but has no facilities.

Also at the cottage, guests can enjoy a meal, if requested in advance, in a restored 19th-century first-class dining car. Dinner (£58 each for two people) and high tea (£20 each), both set menus, are available.
