Art on a French submarine base

In four submarine bays on a former submarine base in Bordeaux, France, works of famous artists are projected on the water and on walls 39 feet high in the digital art space Bassins de Lumières (Impasse Brown de Colstoun, Bordeaux; www.bassins-lumieres.com/en), which opened April 17.

Artists featured until Jan. 3, 2021, are Gustav Klimt and Paul Klee. Visitors access gangways and quays over water for the immersive experience created by 90 video projectors and 80 speakers. A separate room exhibits new works of digital art. A museum of the history of the submarine base, which dates to WWII, is on site.

Open daily 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sun.-Thurs. & 10-9 Fri.-Sat., April 1-Sept. 30, and 10-6 Sun.-Thurs. & 10-7 Fri.-Sat., Oct. 1-March 31. 13.50 (near $15), adult, or 12.50, over 65.
