Before we embarked on a 2-week South America cruise with Oceania Cruises, my husband and I were fortunate enough to spend three days and two nights in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the Algodon Mansion (1647 Montevideo St.; phone +54 11 3530 7777, www.relaischateaux.com/us/argentina/algodon-buenos-aires).

Our stay at this 10-room boutique hotel was the most fantastic experience of our entire trip!

A Relais & Châteaux property in the heart of Recoleta, the hotel is a 1912 landmark building with rooms that are posh and upscale, huge, beautifully decorated and elegant. The bathrooms seemed made for a king.

When we arrived, on March 20, 2018, we were escorted personally to our 1,300-square-foot room, the Algodon Royale Suite. It was a “Wow!” It cost us $316 per night.

We went downstairs after unpacking and were offered complimentary award-winning wines (from Algodon Wine Estates in Mendoza) with cheese and crackers.

The first evening, we hosted a wine-and-cheese party for friends we know in Buenos Aires. We were so impressed, as were our guests. We were provided wine pairings with delicious cheeses and fruits and even baby lamb chops.

The following morning, we were treated to an à la carte breakfast that was elegant and delicious.

The service, the people, the entire experience at Algodon Mansion: all were outstanding. I wish we could have stayed longer.
