US-Cuba flights reduced

This item appears on page 4 of the June 2017 issue.

Three US airlines are ceasing flights to Cuba. Silver Airways began ending its nine US-Cuba routes starting in March, completely ceasing flights by April 11. Spirit Airlines ended its Fort Lauderdale-Havana route on May 31, and Frontier Airways is ending its Miami-Havana route on June 4.

American Airlines and JetBlue are reducing their destinations in Cuba and plan on using smaller aircraft for their remaining flights. However, JetBlue has applied to take over the available flight slots left open by the cancellations of Silver, Spirit and Frontier, which will increase that airline’s flights to Cuba by seven a week to 14.
