Prior to and following a fly/cruise trip to Antarctica in January 2014, my wife and I spent some time in Punta Arenas, Chile, where we enjoyed two meals at Restaurant Sabores (Mejicana 702, 2do. Piso, Punta Arenas, Patagonia, Chile; phone +56 61 227369, www.restaurantsabores.com/index2.html).

The extensive menu included seafood, meat and pasta but was probably not vegetarian-friendly.

Each main course was easily enough for two people, so we each would have one appetizer and one salad and share an entrée and perhaps a dessert. This and a bottle of above-average wine (but reasonably priced), along with the tip, cost under $45 for two people.

Restaurant Sabores was in the downtown area, and its clientele was a mix of locals and visitors.
