Liquids in Carry-on: Travel-sized products

This item appears on page 50 of the September 2011 issue.

I routinely travel with just a carry-on. (In 2005 I took a five-week trip to Australia with a 22-inch bag and a shoulder tote.) Even before the restrictions on liquids in planes, I traveled with small sizes of products to help keep my luggage down to a carry-on.

I use GoToobs (San Francisco, CA), which are refillable squeezable tubes, and also share a lot of items with my husband to save space in the quart bags.

A website I like is Minimus.biz (805/480-1415) for a huge variety of travel-sized products.

Another is Lush.com (888/733-5874). Lush Cosmetics is a worldwide, eco- and animal-friendly company that rejoices in minimal packaging, so I can get solid shampoo that really works as well as a fantastic solid cocoa-butter body lotion. They often have special sample sizes of perfumes and cleansers too.

I also use Bare Escentuals (888/795-4747) mineral powder cosmetics to minimize liquids.

The one thing I’d like to find is 100mg insect repellent and facial sunscreen.
