Dining in Germany, Prague

This item appears on page 34 of the September 2011 issue.

Here are two restaurants my wife, Judy, and I enjoyed in September ’10.

In MEERSBURG, Germany, Hotel Seepromenade (Seepromenade 14, S-88709 Meersburg; phone 07532 495757), on the Bodensee, served terrific typical German dinners on their patio (inside dining also available). The view of the lake as you dine is superb. Great service and food.

One of us had grilled fish for €14.90 (near $21) and the other had Jägerschnitzel (pork cutlet with mushroom gravy) for €9.90 ($14). A carafe of local wine at €19.90, one large beer at €2.50, an ice cream sundae with whipped cream for €3.60 and two glasses of Asbach schnapps for €5 brought our total to €55.80 ($80).

We had an excellent lunch in PRAGUE, Czech Republic, at one of the oldest restaurants in the city, Pivnice U Glaůbicu (Malostranské Náměstí 266/5, CZ-118 00 Praha; phone +420 2 5753 2027), located at the foot of the many steps down from the Prague Palace. Marvelous potato soup, two chicken club sandwiches, beer and wine cost a total of CZK499 (near $30).
