Online London dining guide

While in London in September ’09, we used the website www.restaurant-guide.com regularly to check out restaurants and to find special offers. We have been pleased with the recommendations and the “two entrée for one” offers.

If you use their service, be sure to print out the reservation/offer. One restaurant we used asked which offer we had booked, and one didn’t credit us the free entrée until we showed the reservation.

By the way, we highly recommend Whitechapel Gallery Dining Room (77-82 Whitechapel High St., London, E1 7QX, U.K.; phone +44 [0] 20 7522 7888).

This small restaurant in the art gallery is located immediately next to the East Altgate Tube station. They offer a two-course luncheon menu for £15 ($25) and a 3-course dinner menu for £20 ($33). À la carte entrées are under £20.

We enjoyed an entrée of pan-fried sea bream, cauliflower, preserved lemon and pistachio couscous along with a side of spiced roasted heritage carrots, preserved lemon and coriander dressing. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent.
