Tours of the Royal Mews

Built in the 1820s, the Royal Mews at London’s Buckingham Palace is not only one of the finest working stables in the world, it is the department responsible for all road travel by Queen Elizabeth II and members of the Royal Family, whether by historic carriage or modern car. Throughout the day, guided tours are conducted by wardens in scarlet and navy livery.

The Royal Mews is home to the Cleveland Bay and Windsor Grey horses which pull coaches on ceremonial occasions, and it houses the royal collection of historic carriages and coaches, including the massive Gold State Coach, which was built for George III in 1762 and has carried all monarchs to their coronations since 1821.

In 2007, the Royal Mews is open daily, except Fridays, March 24-July 27 and Sept. 26-Oct. 31, 2007, and during the summer opening of Buckingham Palace it is open daily, including Fridays, July 28-Sept. 25. £7 (near $14) adult; £6 senior, £3 under age 17. Call +44 (0) 20 7766 7302, fax 20 7930 9625.
