Guide in Lithuania

I’m a genealogist, and I wanted to explore the towns and villages in Lithuania where our parents and grandparents lived in the early 1900s. Through the Internet, I found Ms. Nijole Pakalniene of Lithuanian Holidays (Šeimyniškiu˛, St. 1a, LT-09312 Vilnius 5, Lithuania; phone +370 5 2636064 or visit www.lithuanianholidays.lt). I asked for a Jewish guide who spoke English, and she paired us with Chaim Bargman.

Chaim is very knowledgeable and dedicated to Lithuania and its history. He speaks five languages. He showed us memorials, museums, ghettos, cemeteries and mass grave sites of the Jewish people during the Holocaust.

For our three days, we paid Lithuanian Holidays $1,100. This included payment of €180 (near $214) for a private car and driver and €90 ($107) a day for Chaim’s services. On the road, we paid for afternoon meals for Chaim and the driver.

Nijole also reserved a hotel room for us for two nights at €84 ($100) a night and a less expensive room elsewhere for Chaim and the driver. We were very satisfied with the arrangements she made for us.
We highly recommend Chaim. He was a wonderful guide. You can also contact Chaim Bargman directly (P Luksio St. 37-22, Kaunas, LT 49391, Lithuania; phone 370 377 79948 or mobile phone 370 681 77166).
