Exotic Parc Samá, Spain

In Cambrils, south of Barcelona, both native and Caribbean plants and a menagerie of Caribbean birds can be found at Parc Samá (Carretera de Vinyols s/n, 43850 Cambrils, Tarragona, Spain; phone +34 977 82 65 14, www.parquesama.com/parc-sama-eng).

Comprising a garden, forest, lake and palace, Parc Samá was built in 1881 by Salvador Samá Torrents, a marqués of Cuba, as a holiday home that would reflect his former life in Cuba. Famed Modernist Spanish architects Josep Fontseré and Antonio Gaudí collaborated in designing the grounds and buildings at the site.

The park's closing hours vary by season, but on days of operation it opens at 10 a.m. €8 (near $9), adult, or €6 for those over 65 or under 17.
