The Honey Pot, Bedknobs B&B in Cornwall, England

This item appears on page 48 of the October 2008 issue.

The Honey Pot (Polgwyn, Castle St., Bodmin PL31 2DX, Cornwall, England; phone +44 [0] 1208 77553, fax 77885, www.thehoneypot-bodmin. co.uk) — located in Polgwyn, a Victorian house five minutes’ walk up a fairly steep hill from the Bodmin city center (three minutes’ drive from the A30).

The Honey Pot is an outstanding self-contained, first-floor apartment comprising two double bedrooms, a bath, a large sitting room with TV and DVD player and a kitchen fully equipped with dishes, silverware, pots and pans, microwave and stove.

£90 ($177) per night during our stay in March ’08. The price included breakfast (order the night before), which was served in the flat exactly on time. There were sandwiches and wine available for an extra charge.

Off-street parking. Children over 12 welcome.

• Polgwyn is also home to Bedknobs (same contact info as above; www.bedknobs.co.uk), a B&B with beautiful, spacious rooms (facilities en suite) that ran £50-£70 ($98-$137). We looked at them, but the apartment suited our needs better. The proprietors of the apartment/B&B were absolutely delightful and very helpful.

Food, wine and fresh-baked goods can be purchased in the town center, and there is a supermarket a 5-minute drive away.

With both north and south coasts just 12 miles away, Polgwyn makes a perfect base from which to explore the whole of Cornwall.
