Rented room in Dubrovnik

I stayed in a room rented by Anka Markunovic (Antuninska 10, 20000 Dubrovnik, CROATIA; phone/fax 00 385 20 417 877, e-mail markunovic@hotmail.com or visit www.dubrovnik-online.com/rooms_vicelic), Sept. 26-30, ’05.

From the airport I took the city bus, which meets passengers outside of the door from luggage pickup after every flight. I got off after 25 kilometers at the first stop, at the entrance to the old walled city, and the ride cost HRK25 ($4).

Anka’s rooms were very clean, nice and newly remodeled. Single, HRK250 ($40), or double, HRK350 ($56). Hot plate, electric kettle and fridge were available on the stairway landing.

Anka is very friendly and helpful but doesn’t rent to just anyone! (She asked me about my travel plans and explained the “rules” re loud music, visitors, smoking, etc., before renting to me.) She or her daughter are usually there mornings and evenings doing laundry and cleaning, but they do not live on site.

Checkout time is noon, but since my bus didn’t leave until later she let me keep my luggage on the staircase in the locked hallway and return the key later.

At the restaurant on the next level down, I had a lovely lobster salad lunch for $8. They gave me a glass of local wine and filled up the glass at no charge when it became empty!

Dubrovnik is beautiful. Do the “wall walk” first thing in the morning before it gets too hot.
