Private accommodations in Bergen

After completing a Norwegian Coastal Voyage cruise in October ’03, my husband, another couple and I spent four to five days in Bergen. Not having made reservations, we were a little apprehensive about obtaining reasonably priced, comfortable lodging; fortunately, we chose private, self-catering accommodations in the home of Lesley and Axel Algaard (Kalfarlien 4, N-5018 Bergen, NORWAY; phone +47 55 31 21 35, fax +47 55 31 59 42).

We found ourselves occupying an entire upper story of their 3-bedroom apartment, which has a comfortable living room and a full kitchen overlooking the city and a garden. (A high chair and crib indicated that families could be accommodated also.) Mrs. Algaard supplied pantry basics (salt, pepper, sugar, etc.) plus tea, coffee and beverage makers. We ate all our meals in, eliminating expensive restaurants.

Mrs. Algaard checked on us daily to see if there was anything we needed and offering umbrellas in case of rain.

We paid $60 per couple per night for this fine arrangement. Parking was free. Prices being what they are in Norway, this was a great bargain and could not have pleased us more.
