Need Private Guide for Stanley, Falkland Islands

We're going to be in Stanley as part of a Holland American cruise in December. While HAL offers many excursions, they're not cheap and will probably have lots of people in one bus. Has anyone used a private guide in Stanley to see the highlights? Not particularly interested in penguin colonies or the like as we've seen more than enough during other travels to other places, including Antartica, plus have seen sheep shows in NZ.

When I visited there a few years ago I easily walked around and went sightseeing on my own. I was able to see the main sites in town, such as the museum, the Cathedral, another church, and historic buildings, buy stamps, go shopping, eat, etc. at my own pace. The people who did a tour did so to see penguins. By walking around on my own I was also able to converse a lot with a number of locals.

Therefore, unless mobility is an issue, walking around on one's own without a guide is fine, especially since there is no language barrier.

I absolutely agree that you don't need a private guide there. The town is easily walkable unless there are mobility issues.
