My husband and I, ages 72 and 75, will be travelling to Burma/Myanmar in 6 weeks.

We are looking for short-term medical insurance in case of a serious emergency. We're not interested in trip cancellation/ interruption or coverage for lost baggage.

We would want to be evacuated out of the country, at least to Thailand, but preferably to the USA.

Does anyone have suggestions?

This months ITN Magazine has an ad from the Travel Insurance Center. This company has been mentioned before in past columns on insurance issues. The link is:https://www.travelinsurancecenter.com/eng/information/cm_quote.cfm?line=... can list your trip cost as $0 so you don't get cancellation benefits. The Premium would be $74. with benefits for Emergency care $50,000; and Evacuation $500,000.This is a .pdf of thedescription of coverage:https://www.travelinsurancecenter.com/eng/library/tx_select/STS-NTL%20DO... insurance is underwritten by TravelexSeveral companies also offer an annual policy for medical evacuation. I use American Express which costs about $120. per year and is automatically renewed annually and charged to their card.

You should be aware that "evacuation" insuance means, technically, getting you to the nearest suitable medical facility. To assure being returned to the United States you need "repatriation" insurance.

We have used Dan at the travel insurance center listed above for all our interenational travels including medical. They have many options and really fair pricing compared to other insurance companies.

Thank you.We didn't pay for the trip with Amex. Do you know if we can still get travel insurance thru them?

Thank you Ruth. That's good to know. I'll use that term while looking for insurance from now on.

Thank you Jack. Not sure what you mean by "the travel insurance listed above".Could you please give a phone #.
