hong kong hotels

My wife and I will be spending 4 nights in HongKong in the first week of December. I realize it is early but want to book early to try and get best rates. Would appreciate recommendations on hotels and possible day long sightseeing ideas. Have downloaded the previous post on trip to new territories and local transport info. thanks for any info.

Depends a lot on your budget. If you want THE view and don't want to pay over the top for it, try the Salisbury YMCA. If you'd rather stay on the island proper, try Bishop Lei.

Another vote for Salisbury. We stayed there for 4 days after our SE Asia cruise ended in Hong Kong. The view of the light show each night was wonderful and the hotel staff were very helpful with suggestions on transport, etc. The hotel's location is great for a variety of transport options: ferries, the metro, etc. A short cab ride can get you to the train station that has the airline check-in desks right there so you can off load your luggage and then ride to the airport. Lots of eating options nearby, everything from Burger King to posh tea at the Peninsula Hotel.

Take a look at The Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel   (sister hotel is the Marco Polo Kowloon but it is not as well located or as nice).

it is located by the Star Ferry Terminal - almost next door. If you stay here, opt for a harbor view (for sure) and check rates for the concierge floor.

Having visited Hong Kong over 15 times since 1952 (most recently in 2008) I concur with the Salsbury as my #1 choice. The International YMCA Hotel also on Kowloon is an excellent option. It is centrally located and close to the Jade Market and other principal attractions.
