We tentatively will be visiting Dubrovnik in June 2016. Can anyone recommend a hotel within walking distance of the Old Town gates? The closest I've been able to find is the Grand Villa Argentia, Frana Supi9la 14. Has anyone stayed there? Also, do you have advice for Airport to hotel transportation? Thanks in advance for your help.

A well-travelled friend stayed at Apartments Placa within the walled city and was very pleased. Here is the contact information: Apartments Placa..... http://apartments-placa-dubrovnik.dubrovnikhotelscroatia.net/en/ tonci.korculanin@du.htnet.hr The owner has several apartments in the building, can arrange the airport transfer and meets you at the city gate to help with your luggage as the old city is all pedestrian. I don't know what the minimum stay is, but if you will be in Dubrovnik for a few days, an apartment would be nice.

I was just there. The best hotel in the whole place is right in the middle of the old town, the Dubrovnik Hilton. It also offers the best views of the old town. The #6 bus stops right in front of it. I had a free hotel night there and was saddened to leave, but enjoyed the full week I had there before moving on. Many hotels such as the Argosy have bus stops in of front them, so it is easy and cheap to get there in any event. ---------- Moderator note for clarification: the Dubrovnik Hilton is located just outside the walled city, about a one minute walk from Pile Gate, one of the entrances to the old city. (http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/croatia/hilton-imperial-dubrovnik-DBVHI...)

Thank you for your positive comments about HIlton Imperial Dubrovnik. After much research, Ray and I booked our stay there, opting for the combination of proximity to Old Town and modern conveniences. Your posting re-affirmed that we made the correct decision for our three nights. We even splurged to let the hotel provide a car service for our transfer from the airport to the hotel for 39 Euro to be posted to our hotel account. Although their staff offered a lesser expensive alternative using the airport shuttle to the Old Town gates, we opted for the easier service after an overnight flight. Thank you again.
