Dordogne Caves Guide

Has anyone had recent experience with hiring a private guide to see the Paleolithic cave art in the Dordogne region (or Northern Spain)? We are planning to go in May 2012, and there are 4 people in our group. Thank you, Claire Wilson

As I recall, we had to get a reservation ahead of time and then drove ourselves to take the provided interior Lascaux (mock-up) tour. It was in French. Not sure how many of the other caves are open so sorry not much help. There were also other subterranean caves in this area as well, but with out the art - a huge complex with a little underground lake you traverse by boat was near-by and well-known. A rental car works best in the Dordogne so you can self-pace your visits to the many charming locales in this area.
