Following The Equator

A toughie — all the countries along the line between the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

Taking the title from one of Mark Twain’s books, ITN issues you the challenge of earning the Following The Equator Award.

To receive it, you must have traveled to every country crossed by the equator. It is not necessary to have actually straddled the equator in each country but just to have been in the country, sweltering.

The countries are as follows: Ecuador (naturally), Colombia, Brazil, São Tomé & Principe, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Maldives, Indonesia and Kiribati.

The certificate measures 8½"x11," and the cost of the award is $7. The certificate is mailed flat, with a cardboard stiffener.

To apply, list the nations named above, next to each write the month and year that you were there. Send that and $7 (payable to International Travel News) to Following The Equator, c/o ITN, 2116 28th St., Sacramento, CA 95818. It’s perfect for covering up cracks in a wall.
