My husband and I were to depart on a trip to England and Scotland on June 13, 2011. The primary goal was to explore the Orkney Islands, home to my ancestors. I personally made all the reservations, mostly via the Internet, including flights, accommodations, Orkney Island ferries and car rental.
When I went online and booked my air travel with Continental Airlines for a February ’11 trip to Belize and Guatemala, I impulsively added on the Access America trip insurance offered with my ticket, since the insurance cost only $25.
In the many years my husband, Ted, and I have traveled around the world on ship, on tours and independently, we have booked travel insurance about two-thirds of the time. We have seldom needed to use it and always questioned the expense of bothering with it.
