ITN has an ad for a barge trip in France with the Merganser. The web site is www.barge direct.com. We plan on going in mid Sept and would like to know if anyone has taken this trip or others similar. Would appreciate any comments or recommendations.

I've looked at this trip also but haven't yet taken it. I believe the company has a DVD that they'll send you. t should be fun though it's hardly a luxury cruise.
You also might look at the A-Rosa river cruises (http://www.arosacruises.com/). I did one last year on the Saone and Rhone from Lyon to Arles and back. The boat is fairly small--a larger boat couldn't fit through the locks) and the passengers were primarily German, though there were quite a few Brits and Canadians on board. I'm not really a cruiser, but this was a pleasant and low-key experience.
