Burma / Myanmar tour operator report

❮ Back To Message Board
I just returned from a two week tour of Burma. I used local Yangon agency called Santa Maria Tours. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend them. They are a small company and mean well, but the recent explosion in tourism has made it hard to find English speaking guides. I think it's probably better to go with a larger company that has more contacts. I started asking our guides who the best tour companies were and they said Tour Mandalay, Grand Lotus, Indo China Service and Exotissimo. I can't vouch for any of them, but maybe other readers on this message board can help.

We were in Myanmar last September and used Tour Mandalay. All their guides used excellant English and were very knowlegable. I give them high marks.

Journeys International has a fantastic relationship with Burma and is a US company with a direct operator in Burma. You can read all about how they got started there in 1986 and get to know their partner Kishan by visiting their web site at http://www.journeys.travel/destinations/asia/burma/

I just finished up a 3 week trip in Burma with Explore, a UK company. The local operator who handled the arrangements is EPG Travel in Yangoon (Rangoon) www.epgtravel.com They did an excellent job and work very hard to use privately owned hotels and airlines, rather than government owned. They also handle local arrangements for OAT.

My wife and I just returned from 18 days in Myanmar organized my Myriam Grest Thein of Myanmar Travel Ltd. based in Yangon. It was a private tour, just the 2 of us, very well organized with guides each day and incredibly reasonable in price especially considering the 4+ star hotels we stayed at. I would strongly recommend her Company.

I have just returned from Burma last month and I was satisfied with Burma Senses Travel & Tours (www.burmasenses.com). They made my trip unforgettable. All the services were excellent.Hope this helps!Dan
