Does anyone have any recommendations re a reliable tour company or private driver / guide to visit Tana Toraja and Makassar, as well as re accommodations and the spots you found most interesting to visit in those areas? Thank you very much in advance.

I returned Sept 1st from seven weeks in Indonesia and much of it coordinated by Floressa Bali Tours. They are based in Denpasar, Bali and have several offices throughout Indonesia. We worked with Paul Edmundus, one of the managers and the services the company provided and their email communication were excellent. They were easy to work with and take credit cards. This is the contact info.:

A major part of this trip was 16 days in the Lessor Sunda Islands (Lombok, Sumbawa, Komodo, Flores, East Timor, and Sumba) with two friends. We have submitted an article to ITN about the experience and would be glad to send it to you by PM, if you'd like. In addition to the Lessor Sunda Islands trip, Floressa Bali Tours made pre-and post trip arrangements for each of us, arranging hotel stays, touring around Bali and diving in Sulawesi. Though this is not the area you want to visit you can see how they coordinated our program.

I recommend that you try to find someone based in the Tana Toraja region to make arrangements for your visit there. A highlight, if gory, is a funeral, and only a local is likely to know, or have the contacts to find out, when and where a funeral will be held, and to make sure you'll be welcome to observe.
